Guidance of Sem Hellebrand: A Story of Growth and Progress 🚴‍♂️

Last season, I had the honor of coaching Sem Hellenbrand in his first Limburgcross races. Sem has been active in mountainbiking for quite some time and has already learned a lot with his club team, Watersley Offroad, where I am also a coach. However, halfway through last year, he decided to take things more seriously. The extra personal coaching served as an extension of his club training, providing just that little bit of extra attention to work more specifically on key areas for improvement.

My approach revolves around small, achievable steps that we continuously adjust and refine. First, I carefully assess the athlete’s strengths and development opportunities. Then, we create a plan together, allowing them to implement practical improvements in the next race. This keeps the process manageable and motivating.

Every now and then, we reviewed a race together—just to see what went well and where there was still room for improvement. This gave Sem that extra bit of insight and confidence to go into his next race even stronger.

And the results? They speak for themselves! While he started off finishing in the middle of the pack, he worked his way forward race after race. This progress clearly shows how much he has grown. Of course, there were moments when things didn’t go as planned, but those were the moments we learned from and came back even stronger 🔥.

Now, we are focusing on the 3 Nations Cup—a completely new challenge. This competition is more technical and demanding than Limburgcross, but it’s exactly what Sem needs to take the next step. We continue to work on his technique, experience, and endurance, and we’re excited to see what he will achieve there! 🌟

With his dedication and commitment, Sem has become, alongside my daughters, the third rider in our Youngchampions® Team > a group of young, motivated talents ready to progress to a higher level.
